Thinner and netlabels who care

December 2nd, 2007   (166 views )

For years now thinner has been providing quality music on the netlabel scene. But i just can’t control myself anymore and have to finally say that with their new blog and their ‘ netlabels who care ‘ series, they have surpassed their constant overall arrogance. Netlabels strive on quality and community. They are non-lucrative organisations made out of the love of music. It’s of course never a bad thing to be professional and serious of the projects you start, but please, to say that netlabels who don’t master their releases professionally, who don’t have shiny flash covers and generally feature talent not good enough for a recording contract, that’s horrible. A big slap in the face to the long-established netlabels like miasmah, kahvi, mono, kikapu and so on. Historically netlabels started in the tracking scene as groups of people who wanted to share good quality music for free, DIY style. Now it hasn’t changed ! As i said, there’s nothing wrong about being professional in your handling of your netlabel, but implying that if you don’t spend horrendous amounts of time mastering, making shiny actionscript covers and writing immense press releases is what makes your netlabel ‘ a netlabel who doesn’t care ‘ , then thinner, you have no fucking idea what the netlabel scene is about.

[SER014] Muhr - Poussière

September 28th, 2007   (184 views )

Number fourteen at Serein marks the most welcome return of Muhr, the man responsible for the first release in the Serein catalog many moons ago. Whilst Muhr has contributed many tracks to other labels in the interim, we’re honoured to present his latest offering, which may be his most confident effort yet. Poussiere (meaning ‘dust’) is very much a development of a sound Muhr has been exploring for some time, the undercurrents of previous offerings are present (notably ‘we are desolved’ and ‘la chute du romantisme en ballades’ released at Miasmah), but to my mind Poussiere reaches beyond these - the music is raw, unshackled and full of angst that grips you from the off. By no means an easy listen, Poussiere is an album that toys with your emotions, one moment lifting you above the clouds with beautiful string arrangements and toy melodies, the next dragging you down into a suffocating world of thrash guitar and dense drones. This is a beast that will take several listens to tame, and you owe it to yourself to do so.

[NMA001] Kaneel - Ma douce mémoire enfantaine

New genshi project !
NMA : New Module Adventures
A tracker group.

What better way to start New Module Adventures than with a sweet, sweet ep by Kaneel. Kaneel’s been on the modscene for a long time now, releasing on sunlikamelo-d and ogredung all those years ago, releasing his popular Inside it module ep on camomille and participating on great demos with Bypass. An adequate taste of reinvented nostalgia, Guillaume uses the tracker masterfully and makes us dream of bubbles and childhood moments. An epic Kaneel release, and while we wait for his upcoming album on apegenine, a great taste of what delicious sounds Kaneel can stir up and has been stirring up for us in the past 10 years.

[RC026] Benefit of the boomerang - Virgil's impending techno swing

August 25th, 2007   (206 views )

Benefit of the Boomerang, known worldwide for his trademark armpit progressions, did five distinct tracks in celebration of the concept of electronic music, because that’s what this is all about: making electronic music to break stuff to.Inventive synthprogramming, brilliant chordprogressions and perfectly balanced and mastered music has nothing to do with this release. After touring planetary system Scol Ev-Aar, with Principal D, Bill Splate and Jack Rabies, BotB recorded his latest online release with none other than Virgil and his Impending Techno Swing band! These five morbidly obese warthogs have described Benefit of the Boomerang as: “Nice guy” and “he really knows his beers."This new astonishing work of art has once again shocked humanity and already experts are claiming the definition of music should now change. Especially the part where that one beat kicks in with the thing going on in the back, seems to be people’s favourite. Find out for yourself!

Genshi recycling.

August 21st, 2007   (242 views )

So after long consideration, Genshi Media the multimedia services company is no more. Genshi is now a project to house different other projects. Apegenine ( the record label ) , Camomille ( the netlabel ), Ronin Collective ( the netlabel ) and the newly made genshi media shop.
There are other project currently under development.
The reason for this blog is mostly as a news feed for all the projects; new releases and links of relative interests.
I’ll also try to link as much of the great art you can find online and maybe even some reviews now and again.

Thanks !
